I have to recommend THE DOCTOR STORIES, by William Carlos Williams. He was a physician, and this book includes several stories about his practice, a few poems, an excerpt from his autobiography, plus an introduction by Dr. Robert Coles, who decided to apply to medical school after meeting with Williams. Williams’ son contributed an afterword, “My Father, the Doctor.” It is a wonderful compilation. I like Williams’ prose (in this volume, anyway) as much as his poetry.
